Secretary Hobbs encourages Washingtonians to participate in National Voter Registration Day

OLYMPIA — Washington Secretary of State Steve Hobbs and the Office of the Secretary of State encourage Washingtonians to participate in National Voter Registration Day (NVRD) on Tuesday, Sept. 16.

NVRD is a nationwide observance that serves as a reminder for eligible individuals to register to vote ahead of the Nov. 4 General Election.

Secretary Hobbs will be observing the occasion by meeting with students at Washington State University in Pullman. Connecting with younger voters and supporting civic engagement is a critical component in promoting lifelong voting habits.

“Registering to vote is an important step toward being civically engaged with your community,” said Secretary Hobbs. “Your vote matters in every election, especially when local measures and candidates are on the ballot, so go vote and make your mark.”

Eligible Washingtonians have multiple options when registering to vote. Voter registration is available online at VoteWA.gov, in-person by completing a registration form at a county elections office, or by mailing a completed voter registration form to a county elections office. More information about voter eligibility is available on the voter eligibility website.

The deadline for registering to vote online or by mail is Monday, Oct. 27, for the November General Election. If eligible individuals miss the online and mail-in deadline, they can still register to vote up until 8 p.m. on Election Day by visiting a county elections office.

Washington’s Office of the Secretary of State oversees areas within state government including managing state elections, registering corporations and charities, and governing the use of the state flag and state seal. The office operates the State Archives and the State Library, documents extraordinary stories in Washington’s history through Legacy Washington, and administers the Combined Fund Drive for charitable giving by state employees and the Productivity Board state employee suggestion program. The Secretary of State oversees the state’s Address Confidentiality Program to help protect survivors of crime and the Civic Engagement Program to increase governmental trust and participation for all Washingtonians.
